Change in Education

For several years there has been questions, concerns and debates about the need for change in the educational system at the local, regional, state, and national level. The digital age has brought about many changes in the way we utilize, process, access, manipulate, and simply use information. The rapid technological advances and a drastic decline in the economy has increased competition for not only professional careers, but for every level of working environments across the world. Technology has made many of the old educational doctrines obsolete; such as the need to memorize, recall, and follow certain conventions that we spent so much time developing student proficiencies. Preparing the young generations to be competitive in this new global economy requires schools to make changes in curriculum and delivery of content. Any teacher that is in tune the dynamics of this changing culture understands that there is little argument for the need of making changes in the educational system. However, there is much debate about what needs to be changed and to what extent we make the changes. I would like to use this blog as a forum for discussing the topic of real changes that could take place within the walls of any school within the next couple of years that would help us prepare students for competing in the 21st century!
